Single wristlets: Seraph Wang
November 11, 2007
¡°Single is simple, couple is trouble. ¡±
Have you ever heard of such single manifesto? There are hundreds of
reasons why youchoose to be single. But are they for real or just
excuses? Such question can only be answered by yourself.
Here¡¯s a single man¡¯s monologue:
¡°I¡¯m a happy single guy. During the past few years¡ªto be specific,
twenty three years, I¡¯m used to getting along with loneliness. Well,
acutally I did once have a romance----it was in my junior, I¡¯ve been
magnetized by a pretty girl who I tried all my best to chase after,
however, never succeeded. Ever since I told myself: being alone
is not really that bad, insteaad of being blamed by a girl just
for forgetting some memmorial day or being late for merely one
minute, at least I can live a free life, enjoy a leisure afternoon,
idling in the crowded street¡ But on last Valentine¡¯s Day when I was
despised by a little flower girl, a rage overwashed my single philosophy.
Finally I realized I should firstly be true to myself---I don¡¯t have much to look at, my bank account
is always empty, and the worst is that I even don¡¯t have the courage to admit I¡¯m single ---- until I
saw the single wristlet, magic smoothly approched me without notice¡¡¡±
It¡¯s true that such words can only be spotted in the single¡¯s dictionary as freedom, but
undoubtedly there¡¯re more in the family¡¯s encyclopedia. So if you really got bored with
single life, just show it.
Designed by Sweet1985 with 7paint,
The single wristlet is created upon such principle. Combined a colletion of single elements, the
single wristlet means a lot. And you can add whatever stands for your life philosophy into the design.
Once put on, it shows you are single, besides, you should be true to yourself when the perfect
person appears, seize the opportunity, express your true feeling and be brave like a warrior. The
several ¡°nexts¡± come so natually.
Let¡¯s back to the single guy¡¯s story.
¡°Truly, I took the initiative step. And the truth is that now I don¡¯t take single as a trouble, coz I
really plucked up my courage to transform. ¡± One day I will wear the single wristlet---- the unique
one implanting my special elements, waiting somewhere in the city, bravely facing the right one.
Single is not a sin, go!
And remember to take on the lucky single wristlet. ¡±

Q: When did you set off design ?
A: When I was in school, from high school and university.
Q: When did you take design as your career?
A: In high school, when I started to learn design as my only major.
Q: What kind of design do you focus on? Except commercial designing, which type do you prefer?
A: To be frank, design is not simple creation. You have to make different types of works for you're often influenced by various factors, such as the market and clients. So I think it not necessary to set a frame for myself. I like practical design full of my own personality.
Q: Do you utilize what you find in daily life to your designs?
A: Of course I do.Everybody does. It's impossible to create those far away from my own life. Even if I do so,that's for others ,not for me. You can only do best what you're familiar with.
Q: How do you define your style? Have you been influenced by any other designers?
A: Actually I have no specific style. It's not essential to pursue a certain style . I just do something beautiful.
Q: What do you think of your own personality?
A: A little bit self-centred£¬and kind of lazy.
Q: Do you have some plans for the future?
A: No.
Q: How do you like the overall design situation in China?
A: There are a lot of opportunities.
Blackframe King by Yolanda

Yolanda: Are you studying in college or doing jobs?
Blackframe: I¡¯m working as a freelancer designer..
Yolanda: Which kind of design?
Blackframe: Print design, illustration .
Yolanda: How long have you been engaged in this job?
Blackframe: More than 3 years .
Yolanda: When did you get in touch with designing?
Blackframe: 2001,when I entered China Arts College.
Yolanda: Is there any difference between reality and your expectation upon this industry?
Blackframe: Of course there is. But it depends on your mind. Appropriate mind + great difference= small difference, and inappropriate mind + small difference = clifflike dangers.
Yolanda: Do you think your mind can make up for objective difference ?
Blackframe: Right. It pushes me to work harder to reduce disparity.
Yolanda: Does it have different influence on your works to take designing as a job or as a hobby?
Blackframe: Almost not. Do commercial things in commercial way to make money. Otherwise, do anything at my pleasure.
Yolanda: Have you encountered such contradiction as betraying your mind to make money ?
Blackframe: It¡¯s inevitable because making a living is the basis of realizing dreams. But I have my own principles. For example, I dislike Japan, so I¡¯m not willing to serve them for money. And if the client¡¯s requirements are too mediocre, please don¡¯t come to me.
Yolanda: I feel that you¡¯re a bit arrogant. Don¡¯t you think so?
Blackframe: It has nothing to do with arrogance, but about self values.
Yolanda: What do you think of yourself ?
Blackframe: I¡¯m persistent enough to a stubborn extent. But I enjoy general popularity. In one word, I can tolerate anything but designing.
Yolanda: I find that some of your works seem to be kind of rebel. What¡¯s your style?
Blackframe: Really? But I sparkplug to keep a pure heart. You can feel it from the Blackman series.
Yolanda: What¡¯s your future plan??
Blackframe: Firstly, set up a workshop, secondly, establish my own company .
Yolanda: What¡¯s your view of the overall situation of designing industry in China?
Blackframe: Comparatively poor. However , it¡¯s getting better gradually.
Yolanda: What¡¯s the main problems exist in this industry ?
Blackframe: Disunited and unprofessional .
Yolanda: What do you most want to tell your craft brothers?
Blackframe: Hold the line !
Apple Nana-Delicate life by Seraph Wang
June 17, 2007
Seraph: when you set off your design career?
Nana: in terms of design, I think it was 2001 when I graduated from university. As for the
illustration, the end of 2004; and the web-design began at the end of 2005
Seraph: what kind of design was your main focus after your graduation?
Nana: I mainly focus on costume design at the first half of that year, then I shift to design shoes.
Seraph: what¡¯s your major in university?
Nana: Multi-media art design. I learnt costume design in high school.
Seraph: shoes-design isn¡¯t 100% interrelated with your major, where do your
inspirations come from?
Nana: when I take up shoes-design, it was just a fledgling industry at home, even in abroad,
relevant information is rare. So I began with upper design, which leaves a large room for design,
various elements can be melted into it.
Seraph: I¡¯ve browsed your blog and discovered your diversity, you love photograph
and music, will these help your design?
Nana: yes, especially music, music light up my imagination. A piece of sensible music can bring
me into the right scene and characters that perfectly matched the music, all these elements will
be shaped in my design.
Seraph: for example, which set of your design?
Nana: not any particular set, I lack of perseverance but fond of new trial, I can hardly make any
set with more than six pieces.
Seraph: what kind of design is your favorite excluding business design?
Nana:I love fashion, with a little pop and rock, actually I seldom incline to business design
intentionally.
Seraph: how do you characterize yourself? young art-zealot?
Nana: exactly, I¡¯m typically young art-zealot after 80¡¯s---- and wrath, powerless, all these come
to my consistent rock complex.
Seraph: have you published your artworks in such platform as 7paint.com before?
Nana: no. actually I was not interested in such personal ordering service. Rather promising as
it is, too many people working on it made the industry spoiled. But through several communication
with you, I found you are doing something different, so I¡¯d like to have a try.
Damingrenwu - Follow me to learn history by Seraph Wang
June 9, 2007
Like many designer, the young man took to painting since his childhood.
¡°Though planned to be an artist, I finally turned to designer.¡±
Seraph: So you don¡¯t regard designer as artist?
Damingrenwu: An artist can be regardless of others, just devotes to his own
design. But to be a successful designer, you have to take practicability into
account. However, they have something alike.
Seraph: For example?
Damingrenwu: They both possess different aesthetic intention and artistic
culture.
Seraph: Will you always take down your flashed inspirations with
tools like paintbrush?
Damingrenwu: Yes, I will, and besides that, I will carry camera with me.
Camera is a good tool that can capture any frame which paintbrush cannot.
Then I will put these elements into my design works. Such as my graduation
design <famous celebrities>, I conceived a series of famous celebrities in the
history. I¡¯m very interested in history.
Seraph: So it¡¯s come from history, not life?
Damingrenwu: Don¡¯t you think history is part of life?
Seraph: That makes sense. How you pick these celebrities?
Damingrenwu: I referred to some comments, and pick those I¡¯m more
familiar with, such as emperor, great persons, and Four beauties.
Seraph: You just mentioned that history is part of life, then
what¡¯s it as to design?
Damingrenwu: History is an abstract concept, too comprehensive. But there
¡¯s a saying ¡°design originates from life¡±,in my opinion, design also comes
from history. To be more specific, modern artworks usually employs history
elements.
Seraph: Besides commercial design, what kind of design
do you prefer?
Damingrenwu: I prefer to drawing designs. Computer is just a
tool, if you can¡¯t paint, some good idea will fly away without
computer. And in any case, a good designer is accustomed to
roughdraw.
Seraph: Which designer and his design fashion influence
you most?
Damingrenwu: I appreciate the artworks by some overseas
designers, consciously or unconsciously I¡¯ve been influenced. But
I¡¯ll stick to my own way of design. I appreciate the famous poster
design master--Gunter Rambow, and dauber expert¡ª123clan.
Seraph: Do you believe you are a genius?
Damingrenwu: Not really a genius, I think each artwork comes
out of hard working and some accidental elements, such as my
graduation design. I happened to notice the Russian Doll which has
a collection of politic leader. That reminds me of designing a set of
Chinese history celebrities. Then I began to do a lot of research
and preparation work. So it¡¯s not just out of imagination.
UncleMars - Have a dream fly by Seraph Wang
June 2, 2007
Seraph: Hi, allow me calling you Mr.Mars, your collection of walking to the Mars deeply impressed me. I wonder how did you come up with that idea?
69PS: The collection of Changeable Mars is a series of motif design for a toy exhibition. The minute I got the motif, the first word came to my mind is ¡°unruliness¡±, in other words, I wanna design somethingbeyond interior compass, something of 100% freedom. The idea originates from our traditional Daoism, combining with brainstorming of ¡°starry-eyed notion¡±, ¡°fugue¡±, ¡°somnambulate¡±, ¡° Diversity leads to prosperity, which finally ends in flourish¡± etc.
Seraph: Daoism! Contemporary young people seldom pay attention to traditional culture, what makes you so special?
69PS: I¡¯m passionate about traditional culture, which comes to a brand-new unscrambling way. Coz fashion always comes with creation which needs deconstruction and succession. Nowadays the youth tends to relish traditions which can be applied to various schools of artworks---- not good enough, but it represents a culture renaissance is approaching.
Seraph: I perceived diversity and rich hue in your artworks. Do you prefer motif design or freewheeling?
69PS: Motif is relative. Sometimes it¡¯s just a starting point initiating your creativity. I choose to fumble with trial approach in the art world.
Seraph: As a designer, where does your exciting point lie in?
69PS: Maybe I¡¯m a little anomalous. Actually most of the time, I just do what I like to rather than
commercial design. I switched from painting to design. Coz design is such kind of art that allows free
expression, the same as painting---- just with different texture.
Seraph: How do you characterize your design style?
69PS: Each of my work strictly calls for being of a set, of a style, thus beneficial for studying and
researching, which also helps understanding the form and concept.
Seraph: So you identify with forms? Many designers don¡¯t think design should be free
from form. You seem to be different.
69PS: What I mean by form is actually the ability of grasping elements. A real master can put
concept into any form. Even they can toy with form.
Seraph: Haha, what about you?
69PS: It¡¯s my dream, I hope one day I could toy with form and concept. Achieve unruliness.
Seraph: Maybe it¡¯s the climax of art?
69PS: I¡¯m still on the way, really, the lofty compass of art is unruliness.
Seraph: How do you characterize design as to life?
69PS: Design is to create a life style, lead a fashion culture. Design is not affiliated to products, but
it is in China. However, I believe the situation will be changed.
Seraph: So your design concept is to lead the culture? Do you have any specific vision?
69PS: I¡¯d like to combine fashion with traditions. In this way our culture can be succeeded, and
develop in a substantial and definite way. My vision is to hold a new media art exhibition in the
second half of this year, and I¡¯m brewing a plot of an oil painting exhibition next year.
Seraph: By the way, you like photograph, do you? Designers tend to like photograph,
what¡¯s alike between the two arts?
69PS: Yes, I like photograph, and I took part in trial art exhibition in my college life. In my opinion,
photograph is the re-creation of the intangible object, while design is a creative expression of the
abstract idea. They¡¯re both expression.
Seraph: Well conclusion, you are a real master. How did you join 7paint?
69PS: All by accident, then I took to 7paint, coz your website has clear orientation and highly
respect the conception of us designers.
Interview of cyicc by Seraph Wang
May 20, 2007

cyicc's design
Cyicc, a designer who is anything but ordinary, started his painting career when others just began their ABC. His collection ¡°fairy faith¡± startled me with endless reverie. Although born to be a designer, the genius dreamed for a sculptor. I just got one word for him, that¡¯s admiration.
Seraph: how long have you been in love with your career?
Cyicc: I took up painting when I was in primary school, but I¡¯ve been a freelancer for over five years.
Seraph: I admire freelancer from the top of my lung, but I don¡¯t think freelancer can exist in all the industries, and not everyone has the strength to be a freelancer.
Cyicc: it¡¯s not easy to be a freelancer, actually it was rather a miserable experience for me, I hunt for job hither and thither, but received no offer.
Seraph: really? What¡¯s your first job?
Cyicc: I was an art-editor in the beginning, then I shift to illustrator for a fashion magazine.
Seraph: since you began learning painting from childhood, have you ever had the idea of dropping it?
Cyicc: no, it seems I was born for art, I have no choice.
Seraph: why?
Cyicc: hah, I was bad at other subjects. In fact when I was in short pants, I was not allowed to go out unless I finished painting. I got a little achievement at that time, so all the people assume that I would take up paining. Besides, my parents even my younger sister all work in this field, so everything goes smoothly that I entered this field.
Seraph: I¡¯ve browsed your artwork gallery and found most of your works are beauties, why only beauties?
Cyicc: that¡¯s not my choice but my job, however, as for this collection of ¡°fairy faith¡±, I¡¯ve added my abstract element into it.
Seraph: wow, what abstract elements? I¡¯m very interested.
Cyicc: it can be sensed but not expressed in words.
Through the interview with Cyicc, I finally got the conclusion that it¡¯s really the designer way of expression. ¡°All can be sensed but not expressed in words.¡± It¡¯s the true reflection of his designs.
Water - Devil Angel by Seraph Wang
May 06, 2007

Leviathan
Water, a girl studied in China Academy of Art --- the cradle of young artists, major in vision communication, has shown her design talent although not yet graduated. Her design works on 7Paint is characterized by devil appearance. The young designer has a dream that one day her design can lead the vogue.7 Paint is her first step to realize her dream¡
I¡¯ve noticed that your design works issued on 7paint are under the motif of devil. How you come up with that idea? I had a feeling that maybe you are also interested in horror movies?
Oh~ exactly. I¡¯m really fond of horror movies. If one day you see me, you¡¯ll find I¡¯m quite quiet. But I¡¯m really daring in this respect. Through watching movies, many feelings accumulated. Maybe one day inspirations will come out naturally without my notice.
So you think watching movies can help to inject fresh elements in your designs?
Yes, coz I can¡¯t experience different tastes of life all by myself. So I like watching movies, perceiving the stories, feeling by heart. Sometime I really admire actors, relatively speaking, they can taste different lives.
Then what about designers? What kind of happiness can you get from this job?
To express my feeling, and let people know what I feel.
What are you trying to express through your works?
My diversity. The collection of devil shows my inner devil. Other collections such as sweet, lovely and sexy ones, I¡¯ll design later which will show all-around-the-corner of me.

Satan
Do you think diversity is the basic ability of a designer that liberated the spring of idea?
Not really, I just feel that I shouldn¡¯t stop exploring any other potentials, because by far I haven¡¯t find out the way that is right for me, I have to read a lot of book, to tryout. I have many friends, some of them never learned design, but they have really fantastic idea. Just like what poet Du fu said, the true essence of poem lies outside. I really appreciate this expression.
Of all your design works, do you have a favorite style?
The Japanese style, very simple, delicate and perfect. I¡¯ve been loving it for long. And the most important, they apply their design into real life, you can see their design works everywhere. The terminal use of design is to serve for life.

Greed
Is it also your design principle?
Of course, live in life, no one can escape.
Do you have a big dream?
To lead the vogue is something I¡¯m always chasing after.
So you take your first step of your design career from 7paint? How would you feel if one day you walk on the street and see people wearing T-shirts designed by you?
I think I will be crazy. That means my first step has made a success.
After the collection of seven sins, do you have any new plan?
Not yet, 7 paint is my fresh start.
